Wool Week 2018

Wool Week this year runs from October8th to 21st which I think is a fortnight actually ! This is my 'From Farm To Yarn' display at The Silverdale Hotel,Shore Road,Silverdale. The hosts kindly let me have the use of a nice wide window sill for some woolly bits and pieces.
Its a lovely venue as from the hotel windows you can see the sheep grazing. There is also a great view of Morecambe Bay,wonderful local produce on the menu and proper good atmosphere!

fleece collection day

I couldn't manage to do this without my siblings strength and siblings cars!.Great fun in the heatwave with lots of lovely wool  from the Fishwick Farms Flock of conservation grazer sheep .All went smoothly despite the heat until it came to the couriers collecting the bagged fleece to go to the spinning mill. They should have collected on the Friday but didn't,so we had 5 bags of raw fleece in the kitchen,in a heatwave, all weekend ....imagine how popular I've been!

Warping in the kitchen!

I'm putting a new warp onto my rigid heddle loom so I can weave cloth for another ruana.I occupy the kitchen for a few hours to get this done!

British Wool Fashion Show

Heres a couple of images from the Royal 3 Counties Show in Malvern British Wool Fashion Show.Too hot for the model to wear the cloche hat I sent but apparently the bag and ruana were much admired by members of the cast of The Archers,Adam Henson from Countryfile  and Philip Serrel of the Antiques Road Trip!!

'Whitewell' Wool

At last I'm managing to show some images of last years wool. This is wool from the lovely Lonk sheep living organically in the Forest of Bowland with just a little help from the addition of a small amount of Bluefaced Leicester fleece from the same farm which makes it a Single Farm Yarn.
The handwoven piece the yarn is on is the Lonk wool woven with 'Cartmel' Black Welsh/Cheviot wool from Morecambe Bay. Oh yes and the little picture is of the Lonk Flock !

'Ruanas'

These lovely ruanas were woven for me by Jane Flanagan with tailoring and stitching by Jean Roberts.

I'm weaving for 2 more  one for the Silverdale and Arnside Art Trail at the end of June and one for the British Wool Fashion Show taking place at The Royal Three Counties Show,Malvern on the 15th,16th and 17th of June.I've been invited to send something to this event by Griffiths Mill in Derbyshire who are the wool spinners for my Silverdale and Arnside wool.
A busy few weeks weaving I think!

Spring clear up

I've been doing some re organizing and these wire shelves are brilliant! Not beautiful but practical and I now have my yarn all stored so that I can see just what I've got and its given me much more space to work in.Only problem ...... there's no sea view !!
